This is a short film that illustrates the process I go through to complete a commission. A portrait marks a particular moment in a families life. I work closely with my clients to discover the environments that make them feel the most at home and comfortable. This has proven to be successful when producing beautifully natural painted portraits. The painting is only a fraction of its outcome, it's the people that are being painted that makes it something special.

The Commission Process

1. Consultation

Before starting any project, a consultation with the client is essential. Within this consultation we can discuss the setting for the photoshoot that will be used to create the painting from, it is essential that you choose a place that you feel most comfortable in to ensure the most natural looking imagery. I will travel anywhere you need me to be and will bring the relevant equipment for your chosen location

2. Photoshoot

The main aim of the shoot is to have an enjoyable time and feel relaxed. If you want to have a break feel and uncomfortable there is no rush, we can take our time until we get the right image. I will give you the direction I feel would make a well balanced composition for a painting but if there is anything you would like to do or try then just ask. Once we are happy with the images taken, I will then go ahead and produce your painting.

3. Painting

I work in watercolour predominantly but can also work in other mediums if required. The paintings are painted onto stretched Fabriano 300gsm Watercolour Paper this may vary depending on the size in which you want.

4. Cost variables

The cost of your painting will be determined by three main factors:

  • Size
  • Number of people in the painting
  • Framing

5. Delivery

Once all the painting has been finished, I will then personally travel to give the painting by hand.
